Mildred Pittman Sims was born February 28, 1937 in Gonzales County, Texas to the union of Jodie Pittman and Helen Davis Pittman. Mildred was the eighth of nine children. She attended public schools in Gonzales County and graduated from Edwards High School. She attended Prairie View A&M University where she studied Institutional Management and Food Service Operations. Upon graduation, she relocated to San Antonio, Texas where she went on to work faithfully for Luby’s Cafeteria for 38 years, and with the Greyhound Bus Company for 10 years.

Mildred received Christ at an early age at Little Zion Baptist Church in Gonzales County, Texas. In 1963 she was united in holy matrimony to Melvin Sims of Aberdeen, Mississippi. Out of that union was born Karen Sims Carter of Austin, Texas and Melvin Dean Sims of San Antonio, Texas.

Mildred loved to cook and garden. She traveled as often as possible. Her favorite times were spent with her relatives, as she was a very family oriented woman of God. She united with Coliseum Park Baptist Church in 1974 under Pastor Lemuel Smith, where she served as an Usher and in the Culinary Ministry. In 1988, she moved her membership to Maranatha Bible Church, founded by Pastor Rander E. Draper, Sr. where she faithfully served in the Choir and Culinary Ministry also.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings (Emma Francis, Ernest, Lula Mae, Helen, Gerald, & Vernon). She leaves behind to cherish her memories her Brother Joe A. Pittman, Sister Joy S. Wright (Albert) both of Houston, Texas; her beloved Children, Karen Sims Carter (Lenn), and Melvin Dean Sims; her Granddaughter Mallory Noel Carter, and a host of other Relatives, Family and Friends.  Mildred was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
